Destination weddings are certainly on the rise and keep growing in popularity as more and more couples are considering it as an option. Combining a memorable celebration with a vacation is one of the most obvious perks of planning a destination wedding in Greece, with the island of Santorini being a top choice worldwide.
Adriana and Darren came all the way from Canada to tie the knot in Santorini. The striking beauty of the island was the main reason behind the couple’s decision to have a destination wedding in Greece. They exchanged vows in an emotional ceremony that took place in Santorini Gem while the bride looked stunning in her Maggie Sottero dress. After the ceremony we had the chance to visit Pyrgos village for portraits.
I really enjoyed being part of Adriana and Darren’s wedding, because apart from meeting two wonderful people, I had the chance to work with a couple that considered photography one of the most important aspects of their wedding day. We had been in touch with Adriana through several emails and we managed to plan the wedding day according to the best outcome in the weddings photos.
A FEW WORDS FROM THE BRIDE ABOUT HOW THE COUPLE MET
“ We met almost 9 years ago to the day of our wedding. I worked with Darren’s sister and watched him come in to visit her every few weeks. After a few months, he finally worked up the courage to ask me on a date. It was his handsome looks that initially drew me in but was his love for family and his ability to make me happy under almost any circumstance that led me to fall madly in love.
Over the next 8 years we became inseparable. Our relationship grew from a teenage crush to two adults sharing a deep love for one another; a feeling we both wanted for the rest of our lives.
Darren proposed in the city we made our first home in. It was perfect. I came home from work on a warm, sunny spring afternoon expecting Darren to be waiting for me on his day off. When I walked through the door, I found a simple note waiting on the counter, ‘your driver will be by at 5 o’clock, can’t wait to see you’. Darren has always been a romantic, but having a driver pick me up on a Monday after work was definitely out of the ordinary. I still have such a clear memory of that car ride. Was this it? Was he going to ask me to marry him? I couldn’t help but feel so emotional- excited, anxious, nervous. All I wanted was to see him and feel safe in his arms. Overlooking the city line with the later afternoon sun reflecting off of the still harbor water, I heard the words every girl dreams of “Will you marry me?”

We wanted our guests to feel the intimate love that we have for each other and decided together that a destination wedding in Greece an the picturesque beauty of Santorini in particular ticked off everything we wanted; breathtaking views, idyllic sunsets and tranquil atmosphere. What better way to celebrate the rest of our lives together than in one of the most romantic places in the world?
