Indian Wedding in Santorini

Nadia and Mitul's special day was colourful, festive and delightful! Although it was not the first Indian wedding in Santorini I had the pleasure to capture with my camera, it was certainly a unique wedding day! As a wedding photographer I always enjoy the divinity and symbolism of a Hindu wedding ceremony, whose basic principle is the idea of spiritual bond and life fulfilment. It constitutes a sacred union of the newlywed couple as well as one of the most significant moments in a Hindu’s lifetime, representing a transition from the first stage of life to the next one, which is devoted to family life.

An Indian wedding in Santorini is a wonderful opportunity to portray the multiplicity of colours and the beautiful wedding details having as a background the minimalist Cycladic architecture and the blue and white colours of the island. However, it is certainly a challenging task to shoot an Indian wedding in Santorini due to the specific lighting conditions created by the strong Mediterranean sun in the summer, while it requires a certain acquaintance with Indian wedding customs and conventions.

Nadia and Mitul's beautiful wedding story started one day before the wedding with our pre-wedding session and the Sangeet and mehndi at Theros Wave Bar. The mehndi is a tradition in Hindu weddings, which includes an intricate artwork of henna as part of the preparation of the bride. The bride's girlfriends had prepared a Bollywood-style Indian dance and the atmosphere was joyful and celebratory. The wedding day ceremony took place at Santo Winery with the always creative Wedding Wish team being the mastermind behind floral design and decorations. The exquisite wedding day ended with a fabulous reception at Rocabella hotel with the couple, their family and guests fully enjoying this brilliant Indian wedding in Santorini.
