On the 28th of June a very special Hindu wedding in Santorini took place. Philpa and Manish’s special day was colourful, festive and delightful! For me it was the second Hindu wedding in Greece and the first Hindu wedding in Santorini I had the pleasure to capture with my camera and it was certainly a unique wedding day! As a wedding photographer I always enjoy the divinity and symbolism of a Hindu wedding ceremony, whose basic principle is the idea of spiritual bond and life fulfilment. It constitutes a sacred union of the newlywed couple as well as one of the most significant moments in a Hindu’s lifetime, representing a transition from the first stage of life to the next one, which is devoted to family life.
A Hindu wedding in Santorini is a wonderful opportunity to portray the multiplicity of colours and the beautiful wedding details having as a background the minimalist Cycladic architecture and the blue and white colours of this stunning island. However, it is certainly a challenging task to shoot a Hindu wedding in Santorini due to the specific lighting conditions created by the strong Mediterranean sun in the summer, while it requires a certain acquaintance with Indian wedding customs and conventions.
Philpa and Manish’s beautiful wedding story started one day before the wedding with the mehndi; a tradition in Hindu weddings, which includes an intricate artwork of henna as part of the preparation of the bride. The bride’s girlfriends had prepared a Bollywood-style Indian dance and the atmosphere was joyful and celebratory. The wedding day consisted of two ceremonies, a Hindu and a civil one, which both took place at Cavo Ventus wedding venue. The always creative Wedding Wish team was the mastermind behind floral design and decorations. The exquisite wedding day ended with a reception at Theros Wave Bar, where the couple, their family and guests partied till the early morning, fully enjoying this brilliant Hindu wedding in Santorini!
Finally, I would like to express my immense gratitude to Varsha, the bride’s mother, for the excellent communication during the whole wedding planning procedure as well as for her warm words when the photos were received.
